Frequently Asked Questions

Who are Oceanex International?

We are Independent International Sales Representatives otherwise known as Export Agents. We also act as Export Brokers.

What is an Export Agent and/or Broker and what do they do?

In simple terms, we bring buyers and sellers together.  Upon appointment, we act as your sales representative in territories that we both agree upon and using our contacts and endeavours we bring you new business. If desired, as brokers we can engineer the whole export process so that the freight and insurance aspects are coordinated on your behalf.

I’ve heard many different terms for Export Agents including Export Brokers, Export Trading Companies (E.T.C.s), Export Merchants, Export Management Companies (E.M.C.s)…………what is the difference between them?

It doesn’t stop there! Commission Agents, International Trade Consultants, Sales Representatives, Commercial Agents, Manufacturer’s Representatives and Sales Intermediaries etc. Without getting too involved here, the primary difference is whether the company takes title to the goods (E.T.C.s, E.M.C.s & Merchants) or not (Agents, Reps & Brokers).

How can Oceanex International help our business?

If you don’t have an export department but would like to sell your goods overseas (or you want access to a specific territory) then we can source retailers and solicit new orders on your behalf. Your revenue will increase, your business can expand and you can overtake your competitors.

Why should we choose Oceanex International?

Unlike some other organisations, we hand pick the products that we represent and then thoroughly research these new lines before we enter into negotiations with your prospective customers. We ensure our team is fully conversant with every product we choose and we are pedantic about our efficiency.

How do we secure the services of Oceanex International?

Just contact us directly to discover how we can adapt to the specific requirements of you and your product. One of our senior agents will visit you and further discuss your needs and how we might be able to help. An agreement is then signed for us to act as your international sales representatives. The rest is up to us.

As Oceanex International will be working for us, does that make them our employees with all the benefits that accompany that status?

Not at all. Oceanex International is an independent contractor and as such we have no employee rights whatsoever. Likewise, Oceanex International is responsible for all of its own day-to-day activities and sub-contracting, if necessary.

If Oceanex International represent us abroad, how do we know that they are doing a good job?

Our results will speak for themselves! We couldn’t survive without putting our very best efforts into securing new business for manufacturers.

Do we pay Oceanex International a salary or cash upfront?

Neither. We are paid an agreed commission only on the net value of the new orders that originate in our defined territory. If you receive no orders, then we get paid precisely nothing. Prior to this there are no hidden charges or consultation fees.

What happens if Oceanex International agree to an order we can’t/don’t want to fulfill?

We cannot agree to any order without you. You remain the final arbiter of any order, contract or agreement.

Does that mean that Oceanex International can’t negotiate for us?

We can, but only within certain specifically defined parameters. We know what these limits are and we will discuss and agree them with you at length beforehand. We cannot enter into contracts on your behalf (see below).

Will we have a tax liability in the territory where Oceanex International obtain sales for us?

No. Since you are directly exporting via an independent unrelated intermediary (us) and not trading or doing business in the territory and we cannot enter into a contract on your behalf, you will not incur a foreign tax liability. Your domestic liabilities remain with you of course.

Since we are independent contractors, any tax liability incurred by us in the course of our business is ours and ours alone.

Does Oceanex International represent all types of products?

We will consider all product lines where we believe we can represent you, the manufacturer, in the best manner possible. On rare occasions (where the product is particularly complicated) we may ask for a technical representative from your business to assist us in a presentation. We never represent competing product lines.

Where will meetings take place with Oceanex International?

We understand the value of face-to-face meetings and therefore always arrange to travel to our clients. This is for two reasons;

  1. You incur no cost.
  2. Your business runs better with you there!

What happens if we want to cancel our agreement at any stage?

This can be done easily with a short notice period given to Oceanex International. We know, however, that we have to work hard to earn your trust and remain convinced that you will be entirely satisfied with our international sales skills and professional approach.
